Mark J. Curran, Jr.-United States Senator
Mark is a “convert” from the Democrat party, having first been elected Lake County Sheriff as a Democrat in 2006 and later switching parties after understanding his party’s increasingly leftist policies, to win election as Sheriff two more times as a Republican. He kept the Sheriff’s department under budget for 12 consecutive years, formed the Veteran’s Ambassadors Program to care for Lake County Veterans in need of help, the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force, and the Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force among his many accomplishments. He was a special assistant with the United States Attorney’s Office in Chicago, an Assistant Illinois Attorney General, and was a Senior Prosecutor with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. He and his wife Irene are the proud parents of three boys. He lives in Libertyville.
Valerie Ramirez Mukherjee-United States Representative (10th Congressional District)
Valerie is a Hispanic-American, first-generation college student, married to a first-generation immigrant, and was raised in a single parent home where she and her family lived paycheck to paycheck her entire childhood. Valerie earned a BA from University of California (Berkeley) while active with the College Republicans. She went on to earn graduate degrees from Columbia University (MPA) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (MBA), and spent over 15 years in the technology and finance industries at leading firms including UBS, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Bloomberg, IBM and Silicon Valley startups. She was one of a handful of women executives in Fixed Income Sales & Trading on Wall Street. She left the corporate world at age 39 to launch her family’s private investment office, Zen Capital Partners. She is an athlete, active in educational philanthropy and is living the “sandwich generation” caring for her 2 young kids as well as her aging mother. She lives in Northbrook. She is running on a platform of attracting jobs, improving educational outcomes, and reducing taxes.
Chris Kasperski – Illinois State Senate (31st District)
Chris Kasperski (R-Lindenhurst) is an Afghanistan Combat Veteran who searched for IEDs because it was the tough yet necessary thing to do. Chris was awarded the Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with two bronze campaign stars), among others. Now he will use that same fighting spirit to dismantle the culture of corruption and greed that has plagued the Illinois General Assembly. A graduate of the University of Colorado, Colorado, Springs, Chris intends to fight for the freedoms of his fellow Illinoisans and believes our liberties have for too long been compromised by greed, corruption, and unsustainable fiscal policy, forcing family, friends, and neighbors to flee Illinois at an alarming rate. Chris was the successful campaign manager for Senator Craig Wilcox, and he hopes to join Sen. Wilcox in the Senate to help turn the tide against the Democratic supermajority. Chris lives in his childhood home in Lindenhurst with his wife, Allison, and their two kids and two Siberian huskies, one being his service dog, Lakota.
Chris Bos – Illinois State Representative (51st District)
Chris has spent the majority of his career serving as a pastor and working in leadership positions in various public interest organizations including currently in his work as the Director of Development for Reclaim13, the only operator of safe houses in Illinois supporting minors rescued from sex trafficking. Chris has served as an Ela Township Trustee, Chairman of the Ela Township Republicans and worked closely with Senator Dan McConchie on his campaigns. He and his wife Christina live in Lake Zurich with their 3 children.
Martin McLaughlin – Illinois State Representative (52nd District)
Martin McLaughlin is the Village President of Barrington Hills, a small businessman and a financial expert specializing in pension management. He has reduced the size of government in his local community and reformed out-of-control spending. He has lowered the Village’s tax levy for six out of his seven years in office, for a total reduction of 24%. He is also an active member of the community, serving as Chairman of the Barrington Area Council of Governments and participating as a member of the Executive Board of the Barrington Lions Club. Martin also spends time coaching girls travel softball for the Cary Trojans. Martin earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Illinois Wesleyan University. He and his wife Kathleen have been married for 28 years, and have 5 daughters, aged 13 through 26.
Dan Yost – State Representative (61st)
Dan is a small business owner and the Chief Operating Officer at an employee benefits consulting firm focused on delivering results for its clients. In 2017, Dan was appointed to serve on the Antioch Police Pension Board, where he served for two years, before being elected to his first term as an Antioch Trustee. For 180 years, Dan’s family has proudly called Illinois home. As an independent voice for the people of the 61st District, Dan is focused on restoring certainty for families and businesses in Illinois. As State Representative, Dan will bring his business background and will work tirelessly to put forward commonsense proposals to ensure people can afford to stay in their homes, have good paying jobs, receive quality education and are not hampered by harmful taxes or regulations.
James Walsh – Illinois State Representative (62nd District)
Jim Walsh is a Veteran, Family Man & Problem Solver and he is running to take on Pension Reform, School Funding and Property Taxes. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, seven as an aircraft electrician, responsible for nearly every system that could cause the aircraft to crash. Comprehensive preparation and collaboration skills prepared him for his current career as a medical physicist after retiring from the military. He and his wife Debbie have two children and live in Round Lake Beach.
Tom Weber – Illinois State Representative (64th District)
Tom Weber is a small business owner, current State Representative, and former Lake County Board Member and Lake County Forest Preserve Commissioner. Tom has been involved on many boards including Busy Brains Children’s Museum Board of Directors, Youth Conservation Corp Board of Directors, Vice-Chairman of University of Illinois Extension Advisory Council and Lake County Extension Foundation Board Member. Tom is an active representative and a member of many community organizations.
Mike Nerheim- Lake County State’s Attorney
For the past eight years, Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim has brought leadership, experience and compassion to the office of Lake County State’s Attorney, transforming how justice is served, laws are enforced and lives saved. State’s Attorney Nerheim is an experienced prosecutor and former defense attorney with more than 20 years of experience and perspective on both sides of the law. His in-depth experience includes not only criminal law, but also areas of complex civil litigation and municipal law. Twice named State’s Attorney of the Year by the Illinois State Crime Commission, he is recognized for vigorously prosecuting violators of the law and respecting the rights of victims and the accused while ensuring justice for all. Mike is considered a national leader on a variety of criminal justice issues, including the opioid epidemic, conviction integrity, gang prosecution, and criminal justice reform. He is a dedicated public servant, family man and active member of the community.
Dr. Howard Cooper – Lake County Coroner
Dr. Howard Cooper, your current Lake County Coroner, has been involved in the forensic world for over 30 years. As a first responder, he served his country by serving in the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, and Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team Weapons of Mass Destruction at Ground Zero in New York on September 11, 2001 and later in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, helping to identify victims and comfort family members during each of these tragedies. In 2011, Dr. Cooper was awarded the Response Team Distinguished Member of the Year Award from the National Disaster Medical System. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Cooper also earned Fellowship and Mastership awards from the Academy of General Dentistry and was one of three people in the world to earn the Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition award the first year it was given. As the Lake County Coroner, Dr. Cooper enjoys working with and helping the families of Lake County, as well as, the fire and law enforcement communities. A published author and lecturer on forensic dentistry, when he finds some spare time, Dr. Cooper enjoys traveling and photographing the U.S. in his motorhome with family.
Gloria (Mendoza) Schmidt Rodriguez – Lake County Circuit Court
Gloria was born in Miami, Florida and is of Bolivian descent. She enlisted in the Air Force after high school and completed “boot camp” just days before the terrorist attacks hit the U.S. on September 11, 2001. She served on active duty as an airman during that time. She later cross-commissioned into the United States Marine Corps, discharging in 2010 as an officer. She earned her B.A. at the University of Colorado and after admission to the Illinois bar in 2011, opened The Gloria Law Group, a general practice law firm in Chicago and Waukegan, with an emphasis in family and criminal defense law. She has been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2019; Top 40 under 40 by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys (NAFLA); and as a Lawyer of Distinction in General Practice Law. Most recently, she garnered national attention for her involvement in the Jussie Smollett scandal where she represented Smollett’s alleged attackers, to much acclaim. Gloria and her husband Jorge have 2 young children and reside in Waukegan.
Emilia Czyszczon – Lake County Recorder of Deeds
Emilia Czyszczon was born and raised on the northwest side of Chicago. She is the product of two Polish engineering immigrants who understand the perils of socialism and instilled in Emilia a love for their adoptive country, the United States, where they sought to make a better life. Emilia earned a biological engineering degree and an MBA from Purdue University. As a student, she discovered a biological virus in a cave which was named after her, and which has the opportunity to be used as an alternative medicine to antibiotics. For the last 5 years, Emilia has worked in life sciences consulting, aiding medical device and pharmaceutical companies to solve business and regulatory challenges. Driven to help others, Emilia spearheaded the move to eliminate the office of Recorder of Deeds and consolidate it with the office with the Lake County Clerk’s Office to help the residents of Lake County lower their tax burden and drive governmental efficiency with smaller government.
Christopher Morozin – Circuit Court Judge (Subcircuit 3)
Judge Chris Morozin is an experienced judge and widely respected lawyer with nearly 30 years of experience practicing law in Lake County. Judge Morozin is a Lake County Associate Judge, serving in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court since 2010. As judge, he currently hears cases in the Juvenile Court. Prior to becoming a judge, he spent his career in private practice for nearly 20 years with the same law firm where he became a partner. He graduated from Marquette University and earned his Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law. He and his wife have four children and live in Libertyville.
S. Michael Rummel – Lake County Board (District 12)
Mike is up for re-election, and during his time on the Lake County Board, he has served as Finance Chairman of the County, and Finance Chairman of the Forest Preserve, cutting taxes during his tenure. Mike has also served on the Environmental Committee, the Legislative Committee and the Ethics Committee. Earlier, Mike served four years as Mayor of Lake Forest, and eight years on the Lake Forest City Council. He currently serves on the Lake Forest Day Foundation Board. His wife Melanie is currently an Alderman in Lake Forest, served as District 67 School Board President, and was Chairman of Lake Forest Open Lands for three years. Mike is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he served as the Young Alumni Trustee, and as President of the Northwestern Club of Chicago. He has also served on the School Board at St. Mary’s School. Mike and Melanie have two children, and they both believe in public service and doing the best for their community.
Lauren Fleming – Lake County Board (District 13)
Covering Lake Bluff, Wildwood, and portions of North Chicago, Waukegan, Libertyville, and Gurnee, District 13 is a great fit for this Texas transplant, Lauren Fleming. Lauren was born and raised on a small dairy farm in rural east Texas and earned a B.S. in Public Relations and Business from the University of Texas. Lauren is an entrepreneur and owner of development company that raises money for charitable organizations nationwide. Prior to starting her own business, she served as Chief of Staff at the Illinois Department on Aging, as a Director in the Illinois Comptroller’s Office, and a legislative aide to a Lake County State Senator. Lauren serves on the Board of NxtGen Illinois and is a volunteer with the First Tee of Greater Chicago and Lake County Veterans Ruck March. She previously served on the Zion-Benton Library Board and worked with the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County. Lauren studied at the University of Texas at Tyler and Johns Hopkins University. She lives in Gurnee with her rescued Labrador Retriever, Madison.
John Frazier – Lake County Board (District 16)
John is a longtime resident of Lake County and a military veteran, retiring recently out of Great Lakes Naval Station. He and his wife, Trish are raising their 5 children in Round Lake Beach. He is devoted to his community and family. Currently, John works for Federal Express. He is dedicated to making county government work more efficiently and at the lowest possible cost to homeowners.
Soo Jae Lee – Lake County Board (District 20)
Soojae Lee, a first-generation immigrant, is running for Lake County Board District 20 to bring accountability and transparency to the District. Soojae is committed to an efficient and unified operation of the Lake County Board that will maximize its service to the Lake County residents. Soojae is an attorney and CPA with an MBA background who will bring legal and financial acumen to the Lake County Board. Soojae Lee resides in Buffalo Grove with his wife Judy and three children.
Mark Lund – North Shore Water Reclamation District (Ward 1)
Mark is a 15-year military veteran and currently serves in the Air National Guard. His most recent overseas deployment ended in 2018 and spurred his need to give to the community and continue public service. Mark owns a locally based consulting business. A Waukegan resident for 12 years with his wife, also a veteran, and three children, Mark spent much of his early career in the insurance industry, working with labor union members and their families. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with additional education from the Air Force University. Mark believes in a simple premise in local government: that officials are elected to vote on behalf of the people they represent, not their own interests.
Kenneth Arnold – North Shore Water Reclamation District (Ward 2)
Kenneth is President of Gurnee firm Arnold Business Enterprises LLC — a Business Consulting and Services firm. Ken will bring to the District deep business education and experience (having both B.S. and MBA degrees with honors and over three decades of business experience). Besides breaking a multi decade family reign in the District with a “new sheriff in town”, Kenneth would add greatly to reviewing all business efficiencies of the Water Reclamation District. He and his family have lived in Gurnee for almost 30 years.
Thomas Swarthout – North Shore Water Reclamation District (Ward 4)
Thomas Swarthout has served on the NSWRD Board since 2012. He previously was an Alderman in the City of Lake Forest, a former Chairman of the City’s Parks Department and past Chairman of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital where he currently serves as a Life Director.
